The Human Dignity Trust has updated their profile on Grenada in relation to LGBT Grenadians. They noted that in Grenada, same-sex sexual activity is still illegal under the Criminal Code of 1987, with penalties that can go up to ten years in prison.

There’s a push for change, as organizations like ECADE are challenging these laws in several Caribbean countries, including Grenada. Unfortunately, LGBT individuals in Grenada face significant societal intolerance and discrimination, with limited safe spaces. Human rights groups and international bodies are calling on Grenada to decriminalize same-sex relationships and offer better protection for vulnerable communities.

Research in this area is crucial for understanding how LGBT individuals in Grenada use technology to craft digital alter-egos. These online identities allow them to express themselves more freely, offering a sense of autonomy, privacy, and mental peace in a society where they can’t openly be themselves.

These laws are common in the Caribbean unfortunately. Hopefully ECADE and other such organizations can achieve inertia in repealing these laws that remain on the books for no reason.

Agreed. I believe that the organizations that do research in this area are vital but I think the momentum has slowed in terms of persons working on the rights and issues faced by persons in the LGBT community in the islands. The technology angle could be a good differentiator.
